What a stream boss is

A stream boss is a boss shown on screen with a health bar. Every sub, every cheer, every donation takes HP off it. Whoever lands the final blow becomes the new boss: their name and avatar take its place, with a fresh health bar.

The stream boss lives next to your timer: it reads the same events, but never changes the time of your subathon.

Create your first boss

  1. In the menu, open ⚔️ Stream Boss.
  2. Under Your bosses, enter a Boss name, for example “Bits boss”.
  3. Pick a Starting point: Count everything, Bits only, Paid subs only, Gifted subs only or Donations and Super Chats only.
  4. Click New boss.
  5. Copy the Overlay link and add it to OBS as a browser source: 600 × 260 for the card, 600 × 140 for the bar.

The starting point only pre-ticks the sources: you can change everything afterwards under Rules.

Several bosses

You can create as many bosses as you like. Each one has its own sources, rules, look and its own overlay link. A few ideas:

  • one boss for bits, another for subs;
  • one boss gathering everything, and a fresh boss for each subathon;
  • a boss of the day, starting over every night.

Every event hits all your active bosses at once, each according to its own sources.

Lifetime

Under How long a boss lasts, choose when the boss goes back to the Starting boss:

  • Permanent: it only starts over when you decide.
  • Per subathon: it starts over when you start a new subathon.
  • Daily, weekly or monthly: it starts over every day at midnight, every Monday at midnight or on the 1st of the month, your time, as your browser reports it.

An overlay left open in OBS moves to the fresh boss by itself.

What hits the boss

Each source has its value: an event takes away its quantity times that value. With 500 HP per sub, a batch of 10 gifted subs takes 5,000 HP; with 1 HP per bit, a 300-bit cheer takes 300.

  • Twitch subs are split by tier, and each tier has two sources: the paid sub, renewals included, and the gifted sub. Kick has the same split.
  • YouTube memberships stay a single source: gifted memberships reach us like the others.
  • Turn a source off to leave it out entirely.
  • Apply the happy hour multiplier to damage makes hits stronger during a happy hour.

Hit points

  • HP of the starting boss: 5,000 by default.
  • HP of each new boss: either The defeated boss's max HP, plus a step, so each boss is tougher than the last, or Back to the starting HP.
  • Carry extra damage over to the new boss: a 7,000 hit on a boss with 1,000 HP gives 6,000 extra HP to whoever takes its place.

When the boss triggers an event

The reigning boss never hits itself. You decide what its event does under When the boss triggers an event:

  • It heals by the value of its event;
  • Its max HP grows by the value of its event;
  • both, or neither: its event then does nothing to the boss.

The starting boss

This is the boss that opens the game. Leave the Name empty to make it you, with your Twitch avatar, or set any name and picture you like.

Look

  • Ready-made styles: palettes matching the timer themes, to fine-tune colour by colour afterwards.
  • Layout: Card, with the avatar and name, or Bar, slimmer.
  • Shape: Rounded, with a corner setting, or Square.
  • Where the HP go and HP format: inside the bar, above, below, on the right or hidden; as a value, a percentage or both.
  • Content: the avatar, the crown on the avatar, the frame around the avatar, the title, the defeated boss count, damage numbers and animations can each be turned off.
  • Sounds: one for hits and one for the K.O., uploaded from your computer.

The Preview shows exactly what your overlay will show. The Test a hit, Test a heal and Test a K.O. buttons replay the animations without touching the real HP. When you save, the overlay in OBS updates by itself.

Avatars come from Twitch. For a boss from Kick, YouTube or a donation, the overlay shows the first letter of their name.

Live

The Live card is for catching up on something missed without waiting for an event:

  • Hit or Heal by a given amount, or set the HP and Max HP directly;
  • Crown someone: put whoever you like on the throne, the winner of a challenge for example;
  • Back to the starting boss: reset the game, defeated boss count included.

An editor allowed to change your settings can also manage your bosses from Shared with me.
